Do you Know your dog ?

So do you ? What makes your dog tick .

When you work as a Dog Trainer, you come across so many different breeds and cross breed dogs. Sometimes people don't actually realise just what their dog was bred for generations ago, and wonder why he chases cars, or won't recall from a scent.

Dogs were bred to help humans.

Whether it was to guard and protect,

Help catch food,

Keep vermin under control,

As a blood sport.

As a companion dog.

To help with livestock.

The majority of dogs in our homes were from working dog strains. Even the cross breeds we see today, that don't look anything like the original dog that was bred for a purpose. This does not mean those innate traits are not there. All dogs need an outlet for those innate traits. Dogs that were bred to sniff out game, need to be given the opportunity to use their noses is an example of this.

So for our dogs, we cannot allow them to chase prey, or herd cars, but we can use games to meet your dogs innate needs.

Flirt pole for herders, nose work for gun dogs, retrieve. , scent games, the list goes on.

SO  especially for our cross breed mixes, there will be the original breed traits in there. Doesn't matter what your beloved dog looks like.

Look out for those innate behaviours.
