Dogs and Shoe Laces ???

How to help your puppy or dog get it right.

Can you remember teaching your child how to tie their shoe laces?

It took a lot of patience and practice, right !

Lots of praise and encouragement too. Maybe having to change the way you were teaching them, as they just didn't get it.

Helping your child to get it right. Maybe even a reward of ice-cream after your child succeeded.

How did your child feel?

How did you feel?

Now

What if you told your child NO every time they tried to follow your guidance, but didn't get it right.

Every little mistake was tutted at or frowned upon.

You ran out of patience.

Maybe even shouted at them.

Let them know how frustrated you were that they couldn't tie their shoe laces.

How did your child feel?

How did you feel?

Did your child learn to tie their shoe laces?

Now imagine you were teaching your puppy or dog to do a simple SIT.

Makes you think

Positive reinforcement works.

Set your dog or puppy up to win not fail. Don't expect them to understand what you want them to do.

Reward each tiny step

Build a bond of trust and reap the rewards.

Think, what do I want my dog/puppy to do instead(rather than jump up as an example).

Reward what you want.

Repetition, reward, fun.
